Meet Brian S. Quinn

A Story of Resilience, Recovery, and Hope

Brian’s life changed the day after he passed the bar exam, when his mentor tragically died in front of him on a courtroom floor.

The trauma that followed contributed to years of PTSD, imposter syndrome, mental health challenges, and addiction. Today, with 17 years in recovery, Brian shares his deeply personal journey with honesty, vulnerability, and humor.

His story reminds audiences that struggle does not have to define their future—and that recovery, resilience, and meaningful success are possible.

Detection of Professional Risk

Brian examines the substance use and mental health challenges facing attorneys, including stress, isolation, burnout, and the pressure to keep personal struggles hidden. Through candid discussion and his own recovery story, he challenges the idea that lawyers must “hit bottom” before asking for help.

What does burnout look and feel like—and when does everyday “lawyer anxiety” become something more serious? Brian explores the warning signs of burnout and impairment, why lawyers and judges face heightened risks, the barriers that often prevent them from seeking help, and the ethical issues surrounding mental health and substance use in the profession.
